Bermuda Grass care calendar for zone 6

Moderate winter, warm humid summer; transition-zone climate where cool-season grasses begin to suffer in July–August. Zoysia japonica is the only viable warm-season option (Meyer cultivar). Most lawns are cool-season blends with extra irrigation in summer.

Bermuda is the workhorse warm-season lawn of the South: heat-tolerant, drought-tolerant, traffic-tolerant, and aggressively self-repairing via both stolons and rhizomes. Hybrid bermudas (Tifway 419, TifTuf) require sodding and look like a putting green; common bermuda can be seeded and looks closer to a typical Southern lawn.
