Bermuda Grass lawn care schedule
Bermuda is the workhorse warm-season lawn of the South: heat-tolerant, drought-tolerant, traffic-tolerant, and aggressively self-repairing via both stolons and rhizomes. Hybrid bermudas (Tifway 419, TifTuf) require sodding and look like a putting green; common bermuda can be seeded and looks closer to a typical Southern lawn. The trade-off is dormancy: bermuda turns straw-brown below ~50°F soil temp and stays that way from October to April in zone 7.
- Growth habit
- Spreads via both stolons and rhizomes; very aggressive
- Mowing height
- 0.75–1.5 in (hybrids); 1.5–2.5 in (common)
- Season
- warm-season
Notes: Goes fully dormant below ~50°F soil. Won't survive zone 6 winters reliably.
